What's budding?

It's May 10 and many bud stalks are forming.  The next to bloom will be SDBs Clear Blue Skies and Golden Ring.  IBs Harlow Gold and Lemon Pop are also on the way.  There is also a huge group of and uknown white IB or BB.  I thought this was "Immortality" but it consistently bloom smaller, shorter and with a touch of yellow on the haft.  We'll watch these closely. In either case they are consistent re-bloomers.

Late Tulips

Gavotta is my favorite tulip.  It's burgundy and cream would have been my school colors if I had a choice. This tulip is prolific, has a great fluted form stays true to color and heralds iris season.  What more could you want in a tulip?

 

This is a photo of which I am very proud... now if only I had turned off the time stamp.  I don't know the tulip's name.  It came in a burgundy mix.

 

These two are a Darwin hybrid pink and red triumph.

Into The Garden

Yesterday was fairly hellish. Meeting in Albany scheduled for 10-4 so I went to the Amtrak station to catch the 5:32 AM from Rochester.  It was delayed till 5:55, then 6:15 then the engine broke down between Rochester and Buffalo.  We were told that it could "take a while."  Antrak's website still said 17 minutes late after the station display said "boarding" and "departed." Finally went to the window...  I was told that it would be hooked up to the next train and arrive at 2 PM or later.

Called Kyle.  Switched cars and started driving to Albany about 8:30, arriving at noon.

Meeting was frustrating at many points and ended at 5:15 pm.  Drove home, arrived at 9 PM and crashed.

The weather was beautiful yesterday but this afternoon and the rest of the week it is going to be raining (60% chance) through Sunday.  It clears up on Monday... just when I am back in Albany.

So to keep my spirits up I share this picture of 'Hosta Schnellinger' and head into the garden!

Blooms as of 8 May 2013

'Snowy River' was a gift to attendees at the GRIS meeting in 2011 from Wendy Roller.  It bloomed in 2012 and is now beautifully established and prolific!

This purchase from Mid-America is one that will bloom during its first year in the garden here!

A purchase at the GRIS sale last year is also blooming this year.  'Panda Paws' from the hutchings is just lovely.  I can't find it listed so if anyone has info about its pedigree, please send it along.

Next To Bloom

Examining and recording the progress of all my irises today I noticed two buds.  Both were on great buys I got at last year's GRIS Iris Sale!

Lemon Pop and Harlow gold will surely be next!  Can you find the buds?

First Bearded Blooms of 2013

This iris appeared while I was in Washington DC and was curling up when I found it today. The first bearded to bloom at diamond rise was an SDB orphan.  It's a pale blue self.

'Snowy River' is usually the first to bloom but this MDB is going to unfurl tomorrow.  I'll be on the train to Albany! Kyle will have to watch it for me.

Meanwhile in DC the Tall Bearded Irises are in full swing!

Daffodils, Dahlias and Dogs

The daffodils are blooming and the dahlias are being planted.  Koda is in the spring swing as Kyle's great photo shows!
